Young Stringers is a social innovative photo project that includes inner city youths in different parts of Copenhagen, sometimes referred to as the hood. The areas are colorful and primarily populated by multinational ethnicities. The diversity adds to the spice of life and pretty much represents the cultural fabric of the future.
After witnessing debilitating patterns imposed on inner city youths that mirrored patters of American cities, I chartered the project in late 2013 to offer an alternative activity and outlet for the youths and to open the channels of communication outward into general society.
Some of the images include a recent intensive teaching project working with 60 pupils in 8th grade of Praestemose skolen in Hvidovre, a public school in the greater Copenhagen area. This project was done in collaboration with Cold & Butt, two innovative individuals and teachers at the school, who have been dedicated for years. Together we addressed issues such as violence against women, genetically modified food, hate crimes, anxiety and environmental disasters, in addition to whats up in Europe now and in the future. The result was: 11 photographs (1.5m x 1m), presented in a POP UP exhibition titled Sacrifice Europe (November 2017) at Arken Museum of Modern Art. Copenhagen area. Other exhibitions include billboard scale prints for Copenhagen Photo Festival.
