When I was just a teen in the mid 8o's, I was heavily inspired by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant's book SUBWAY ART. I spent summers in NY and saw amazing things first hand, but this book was the first vast documentation of the early masterpieces created by the original NEW YORK Graffiti Kings. It is responsible for catapulting myself into a journey as a burgeoning Graff writer in Copenhagen, fearlessly painting trains in broad daylight. Later I swapped the cans for the camera and continued my journey as a visual artist thru photography. About a decade later i became familiar with Jamel Shabazz, who to this day I am still being confused with occasionally, and Joe Conzo, another style master with the camera in the right place at the right time. All of the above are photographers that I respect and revere for their talent and dedication to creating and capturing a vital piece of our culture and history. So to be put in the same category and mentioned as a legend beside them is an honorable feeling.
