ABOUT

Born in Denmark 1971.
Jamil GS begins his independent career as a photographer in 1994, with monthly editorial contributions to the British fashion and culture magazine I-D.
From here he develops his own original style, it is a clear blend of both his American as well as his Danish heritage; calm, deep, and at times melancholic, and simultaneously explosive, energetic, erotic and street smart. Jamil integrates a little from each polarity in his photos. He has a sharp eye for the harmony that exists in cities like New York, in spite of the extreme complexity and duality that also rules. It is this understanding of beauty and harmony with an edge, that Jamil aims to share with us.

Jamil is currently exhibiting with Victoria and Albert(V&A) museum in London's exhibition "Selling Dreams - One hundred years of fashion photography" alongside our times greatest photographers, including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and Jurgen Teller.

Jamil GS creates the collectors items ”GS STICKUPS calendars” in collaboration with popular and likeminded brands like Hysteric Glamour, Supreme, Made and Premium Goods. In these cases the brands works as co – publishers of artwork, that straddles the border between art and branding. Supreme and Hysteric Glamour has since done similar projects with artist Larry Clarke, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst Prodigy, Slick Rick and Richard Prince.

Jamil GS has been a recognizable part of the New York art scene since the 1990s. His avant-garde methods of photography have helped to distinguish himself from the hoards of aspiring picture takers. Flattered by the mimicry, and carbon copies alike, Jamil has continued to push the boundaries with his methodical photography. This style allows him a global platform of business partners with whom he can make his mark both commercially and artistically. In the many years of working internationally, Jamil has developed a vast international network of the worlds most respected talents, both upcoming and established, within art, design, fashion, music and film. Jamil’s work within art, photography, film, and marketing reaches hundreds of millions of impressions both via traditional and online media.

A resident of New York City from 1990- 2010, Jamil has managed to solidify himself as one of, if not, the premier photographers, evolving film directors and transmedia'ist of our time.
